From Denmark to Bali: Our Bali Dream

In 2016, we, Jeppe and Nadia, both originally from Denmark, embarked on an exciting adventure by moving to Bali with a shared dream: to open a cafe that would bring people together over food and culture, a true home away from home in Bali.

Nadia, a trained nurse, developed a deep passion for baking and crafting a variety of foods, specializing in fermentation and making all foods from scratch deeply inspired by the Scandinavian traditions.

Jeppe, meanwhile, was dedicated to his career as a professional poker player. Together, we combined our backgrounds and passions to create a welcoming space where everyone could enjoy delicious food and connect with one another.

In February 2018, we took a leap of faith by establishing cøpenhagen BALI and opened the doors to our flagship cafe in Canggu, Padang Linjong. At that time, we were seven months pregnant with our first child, and we invested all our savings into this venture. It was a risk, but we believed in our vision of creating a space for “your everyday Nordic feast.”

Our bakery was born

As our cafe grew in popularity, we quickly outgrew our flagship location. In 2020, we relocated our baking operations to a charming space in Pererenan, Tiying Tutul. Just as we began to settle in, COVID-19 forced us to temporarily close our cafe, but this setback opened the door to an unexpected opportunity, our sister business was born.

The little bakery quickly evolved into a neighborhood hub for expats, and although we hadn’t initially planned to create a full-fledged coffee shop, we adapted to the community’s needs, transforming our space into what is now known as cøpenhagen BAKERY.

Today, we are fully dedicated to our project, which has grown to include three neighborhood bakeries and coffee hubs in less touristed areas, alongside our two bustling cøpenhagen CAFE´s in Canggu and Berawa. Our café in Berawa opened in March 2023, followed by the bakery in Seseh in May 2024, and another bakery in Padonan in December 2024. All this happened while we also expanded our little family with a baby brother.
