about us

our story

In 2016, Nadia and Jeppe, both born and raised in Denmark, decided to leave their familiar lives behind and follow a shared dream. With a vision of opening a café that would bring people together over food, culture, and community, they moved to Bali to create a true home away from home.

Nadia, a trained nurse, had developed a deep passion for baking and fermentation, inspired by the timeless methods of Scandinavian traditions. Jeppe, on the other hand, was pursuing a career as a professional poker player. Two very different backgrounds, but together they shared one vision: to create something unique that combined Nordic flavors with Bali’s vibrant spirit.

In February 2018, we took the biggest leap of our lives. Seven months pregnant with our first child and having invested all our savings, we opened cøpenhagen BALI, our flagship café in Padang Linjong, Canggu. It was a bold risk, but one driven by love and belief in our dream.

What started as a small café quickly became more than just a place to eat – it grew into a community hub. Today, we welcome locals, travelers, and families to enjoy fresh Nordic-inspired food, artisan pastries, great coffee, and a warm Scandinavian welcome. For us, cøpenhagen BALI has always been about more than food – it’s about connection, culture, and creating a place for “your everyday Nordic feast” in the heart of Bali.

Our bakery was born

As our cafe grew in popularity, we quickly outgrew our flagship location. In 2020, we relocated our baking operations to a charming space in Pererenan, Tiying Tutul. Just as we began to settle in, COVID-19 forced us to temporarily close our cafe, but this setback opened the door to an unexpected opportunity, our sister business was born.

The little bakery quickly evolved into a neighborhood hub for expats, and although we hadn’t initially planned to create a full-fledged coffee shop, we adapted to the community’s needs, transforming our space into what is now known as cøpenhagen BAKERY.

Today, we are fully dedicated to our project, which has grown to include three neighborhood bakeries and coffee hubs in less touristed areas, alongside our two bustling cøpenhagen CAFE´s in Canggu and Berawa. Our café in Berawa opened in March 2023, followed by the bakery in Seseh in May 2024, and another bakery in Padonan in December 2024. All this happened while we also expanded our little family with a baby brother.
